About the Threshold Singers
The Gunnison Valley Threshold Singers is part of an international organization whose mission is to sing for those at ‘the threshold of life’…with a vision of a world where all at life’s thresholds may be honored with compassion shared through song. More info at http://www.thresholdchoir.org.
We are a group of women with a focus on singing and sharing music that we enjoy. We share, laugh, trust and take risks as we find our individual and collective voices. No experience is necessary, just a love of singing, ability to carry a tune, listen to others, and an openness to explore. You may think ‘you can’t sing’: it continually amazes me how many adults were scarred in early years by an uncaring or unsuspecting teacher. Whether that’s you or not, I encourage you to come take part.
Our Vision
This vision was written by another Threshold member, and I couldn’t have said it better myself:
My VISION for this group is to be a growing community of singers with a heartfelt desire to serve people by bringing beautiful voices and a peaceful presence to those in need, where ever that may be.
There are many ways to reach out to others to serve and to do that through song. However, we have come together for the PURPOSE of threshold singing. This choir is about Threshold Singing. This is an Acappella group of women (and men), who come to sing for the purpose of singing to people in need, blending voices to bring peace and solace with song.
Singing with Threshold is not just about music. It’s about spirit and intention. It’s about opening your hearts and creating community with one another. In supporting each other, through this work, we heal and feed ourselves, so we can support and help others.
Community is one vital reason for our group. This kind of singing takes building trust, courage, respect, and compassion among ourselves, so that we can express our true voices. We are people of different backgrounds, different spiritual or religious practices, different economic classes, different politics. I believe we have come together to experience our connection, to those in need and to each other and that this will help our spiritual journey and health. That is my vision.
